Raymond Choong is a technology investor, a digital transformation expert and advisor to technology startups, with over 26 years of experience in investment, finance, operational, Supply Chain, eCommerce and internet-based fields. He has been working with Ooredoo Group (OG), a leading Middle Eastern telecom group, and also with Singapore Technologies Telemedia (STT), a Temasek-linked company, for the last 16 years.
At OG, Raymond was a key member in the digital transformation at the group level and in implementation in a subsidiary. In the last two years, he was involved in driving the internet-economy in the Middle East, China and Southeast Asian regions via partnerships and joint ventures, and initiating a technology accelerator programme and a venture capital fund.
While at STT, Raymond was responsible for aligning strategy and long-term planning across the group businesses, as well as managing the company’s cross-border investments and overseeing the strategic investments for the group. He was a member of the initial team that initiated the Internet Data Center (IDC) business in its infancy. He played a key role in initiating and leading investments in the areas of Internet/Digital Transformation (such as eCommerce, Fintech, Big Data), Telco “Over-The-Top” (OTT) Players, submarine cable operators, cable/broadband TV operators, IDCs, and wireless/fixed-line providers and operators in China, Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern markets.
Previously, Raymond has held various senior corporate development and management roles. At Creative Technology, a Singapore-based global technology company, he managed eCommerce and product development. At Kaga Electronics, a Japanese, Tokyo-listed company specializing in electronics and IT products distribution, he established the Singapore office, running sales and operations in the area of contract management and supply chain management.
Raymond is currently a mentor at SPH Plug & Play (a media and technology-focused accelerator programme), UOB’s Finlab (a Fintech-focused accelerator programme) and the TNB Accelerator and Airmaker (an Internet of Things-focused, cross-border accelerator programme).
